DC Producer Mark Maxey discusses his new film 'Words of War'

WASHINGTON (7News) — The upcoming film, ‘Words of War,’ features the story of the late Russian-American journalist Anna Politkovskaya. DC producer Mark Maxey joined Good Morning Washington to chat about the incredible story behind the film.

Maxey described how Anna Politkovskaya had the tremendous courage to report amidst outside pressures from Putin’s Russia.

According to Maxey, Anna Politkovskaya’s story is still relevant in the 21st century. “The thing that makes Anna so remarkable is that her story symbolizes the challenges that journalists face today,” he said. “We live in a time where journalists are under increasing pressure and fear of death or reprisal.”

The story of ‘Words of War’ goes beyond entertainment. It shares a lesson in free press. “It seems like the right time for this story and this reminder,” said Maxey.

‘Words of War’ will be in theaters on May 2nd.
