Blue Fox bulks up AFM sales slate with Kyra Sedgwick’s ‘Space Oddity’

Blue Fox Entertainment has bulked up its AFM slate and added international sales rights to Tribeca 2022 family film Space Oddity, directed by Kyra Sedgwick and featuring a cast that includes Kyle Allen, Alexandra Shipp, and Kevin Bacon.

Allen stars in the Big Swing Productions feature as Alex, who longs to travel into space and finally gets his opportunity thanks to a privately funded Mars colony programme. During rigorous preparation he meets Daisy (Shipp), a new girl in town, and the pair connect.

When questions about the legitimacy of the programme and the future of his parents’ flower farm rear their head, Alex finds himself questioning whether it’s easier to confront his past or fly off to the stars.

The cast includes Madeline Brewer (The Handmaid’s Tale Hustlers), Carrie Preston (The Good Fight, Claws), Simon Helberg (Annette, The Big Bang Theory), and Andrew Polk (Armageddon Time, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel).

Valerie Stadler, Sedgwick, Meredith Bagby, Richard Arlook, Jack Greenbaum, Mark Maxey, and Mickey Schiff served as producers. Executive producers are Paolo Mottola Jr., Joe Z. Crosby, Ibrahim Alhusseini, JL Pomeroy, Daryl Roth, and Brent Emery.

Blue Fox’s head of international, Lisa Gutberlet said, “We are thrilled to work with the Space Oddity team to bring this delightfully charming family film to the international marketplace and ensure it reaches the audience it deserves. It’s a life affirming journey that explores grief and love and ultimately what binds us together. In the same way that audiences were moved by Silver Linings Playbook and We Bought A Zoo, we believe that global audiences will be moved by this uplifting and entertaining story as well.”

Sedgwick added, I couldn’t be more thrilled to be partnering with Blue Fox on the international sales of Space Oddity. The film is a passion project for me. It’s a love letter to our planet, and a celebration of family. I’m thankful for the enthusiasm and support from Lisa Gutberlet and her team to help bring the film to audiences around the world.”

Allen’s credits include Hulu Original Rosaline, The Greatest Beer Run Ever and American Horror Story, and Shipp starred in tick, tick… BOOM!, X-Men: Dark Phoenix and will be in Margot Robbie’s upcoming Barbie

Sedgwick previously directed Sundance 2019 selection Girls Weekend, DGA-nominated Story Of A Girl and multiple TV episodes. Her acting credits include The Closer, The Edge Of Seventeen, Born On The Fourth Of July, and Singles. Bacon’s acting credits include They/ThemCity On A Hill, Footloose, and Mystic River.
